Streaming speed tests check if your internet connection is strong enough to stream in maximum resolution with little to no buffering.Jitter speed tests describe how the data flows between all the network devices. Data is transmitted between devices at a set interval, but the connection can turn laggy as a network becomes more congested - this is jitter.A ping test measures the time between the command and the outcome, so a higher latency speed means a slower reaction time. Think of it this way: when a button on a video game controller is pressed, an action is triggered on the screen. A ping or latency speed test shows how long it takes for your device to receive a response after sending a signal to the server.Actions such as surfing the web or streaming videos fall under downloading speed, while sending emails or uploading photos and videos online fall under upload speed. Download and upload speed tests refer to how quickly you can receive and send data to the internet. There are many types of speed tests that can help you better understand your internet speed. Keep those times in mind - they are ideal for scheduling downloads of large files such as video games or movies. Try running a few speed tests throughout the day for an idea of when your connection is at its peak performance. Test at different times of the day. Depending on your internet connection type, peak usage times (typically weeknight evenings when many stream their entertainment) can hinder your speeds. If speeds drastically differ between devices, you may need to adjust device or router settings to improve performance across all devices. Run a speed test on your computer, phone, smart TV, gaming console, etc. Try running a few speed tests at varying distances from the router and perhaps other rooms or floors of your home to gauge your router's range and identify any dead zones. Distance from the router can affect your Wi-Fi speeds. Test at varying distances from your router.Follow the Ethernet test with a test over Wi-Fi for an idea of the speed difference via Wi-Fi versus wired connection. Often, you can run such tests straight through your router via the router's accompanying app. Testing over an Ethernet connection will give you a better look at the actual speeds you're getting from your provider. Test using both Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections. Here are a few tips to consider when taking an internet speed test. Running a speed test is typically as simple as finding the test and clicking the start prompt, but there are some extra measures you can take to get more accurate and informative results. See at Tips for taking an internet speed test That's not surprising, but it might make a slight impact on your results, depending on the strength of your connection at the time of the test. You can even run the Ookla speed test on an Apple TV.Īll of that said, Ookla does display banner ads while you run basic speed tests. In addition to the website and the smartphone apps, Ookla also has apps you can run on Windows or on Mac. The service released a video-specific speed test that measures your network's ability to handle 4K video streams, and it recently added a free VPN to its mobile app. Ookla's done a good job of keeping up with the times by adding new features and capabilities over the years. Incidentally, Ookla's speed test is also the one we use when we're testing Wi-Fi routers. Popularity aside, we like Ookla for having everything a basic user needs from a speed test: accuracy, the ability to view your speed test history (when you create an account), a wide array of servers to connect to, and even a handy app for speed testing from your Android or iOS device. One of our favorites is the Ookla speed test, which has a strong reputation for consistency and for being one of the first speed tests on the web. The FDA’s standard for benzene in sunscreen is unclear, but it earlier set a temporary limit related to the pandemic of 2 parts per million for hand sanitizers.Īfter the FDA received Valisure’s petition, it began a process of securing sunscreen samples and conducting independent analysis, said Jeremy Kahn, an agency spokesman. In recent months, however, elevated levels of benzene have been detected in some hand sanitizers. 1977 studyĪfter a landmark study in 1977 highlighted its health risks, employers and manufacturers were forced to limit benzene in their workplaces. Light said it’s not certain why sprays specifically contained benzene in J&J’s tests compared to lotion, “but many of these aerosol products appear to use significant amounts of alcohol.” Valisure said previously, when it found benzene in some hand sanitizers, that the contaminant may have been introduced when alcohol - the germ killer that is their main ingredient - is purified. Nonetheless, the company said it would recall the products out of an abundance of caution. J&J said that “daily exposure to benzene in these aerosol sunscreen products at the levels detected in our testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences. Before each game the map is laid out before you and there are no real surprises for the heroes. First and foremost is the complete lack of exploration. You're still using the core mechanics of Descent, but the app generates the adventure, map, monsters, and events as you play.īefore I dig deeper into the app, you need to understand why Descent 2.0 fails as a dungeon crawler. The app feels very unobtrusive to the overall experience and I like that. The players have to roll the dice, make the important decisions and you ay the boardgame. You're basically going through a pre-built quest and trying to accomplish a goal. Finally, it gives you the AI of the monsters so that you know how they act. As you play, it will spawn monsters (these will be based on what expansion material you own), it will also tell you what a search token or exploration token contains. It tells you what map pieces you need and how to initially set up a couple of them. The Road to Legend App is the culmination of all the feedback they received.Įssentially, all this fancy app is doing is automating the co-op style quests that FFG previously introduced. FFG tested the waters with a few print on demand co-op expansions earlier. Now this wasn’t the first time Descent dabbled in co-op play. They also decided to retool the entire game and make it completely cooperative, ditching the Overlord mechanic. ”That’s it?” I hear you muttering to no one in particular. Instead they design an app that would allow people to play out their campaigns. Nope, FFG realized that wouldn’t work as there was already too much content available for the second edition. Much like first edition there was only one thing that could save Descent and that was “The Road to Legend”. Then without warning FFG delivered…THE PATCH. To ease the pain I begin thinking about selling it off and never looking back. Still, the shattered dream of Descent was a scar that wouldn’t go away anytime soon. I suppose it’s for the best, over the years I’ve purchased a far too many dungeon crawlers and they were relieved that I wasn’t going to go Kurt Russell from The thing on their asses. Innately you both feel like something is wrong. It’s like you made out with your sister or something. Then you kiss and immediately everything is wrong. It’s going good, she’s laughing at your jokes, and you’re feeling confident. A few years later though, you find out she’s free and you ask her out. She was perfect, everything you ever wanted except she was taken. You’ve lusted after her for roughly 10 years. Imagine, if you will, the girl of dreams. This was it, the greatest dungeon crawler of all time had arrived and I was going to burn ever other pretender in my collection. This time FFG looked to trim the bloat, make the game accessible, play in a reasonable time, and it added all of the excellent Road to Legend campaign stuff from the word “go”. I had already given up on the beast at that point though.įast forward several years and FFG went ahead and retooled Descent with a brand new 2.0 edition. I hid my wife’s engagement ring in that first edition box for a few months knowing damn well she would never crack the thing open.Įventually 1st Edition received a massive patch in the form of the Road to Legend Expansion which cut down the time to play, added campaign elements, and just generally made the game better. To be honest, the only reason I still hold onto my original copy of Descent is for sentimental purposes. On top of that it was incredibly focused on combat and didn’t satiate my dungeon crawler appetite. The game felt like it was taking its inspiration from videogames (Diablo specifically) and this never seemed right to me. Sadly, the first edition of Descent was something that I never fell in love with. This is a game that SHOULD be directly in my wheelhouse a grand, dungeon crawler built upon the foundation of classics like, HeroQuest and Dungeons and Dragons the Fantasy Adventure Boardgame. Q: Can zombies be affected by a “Dash” Overlord card?Ī: Yes, a zombie can perform two move actions during its activation if a “Dash” card is played on it.I’ve always had a rocky relationship with Descent: Journeys in the Dark.
